  • There are many different reasons for wanting to share something that you have learned.  One of the most common reasons is because you are excited about what you have learned and can’t wait to share it.
  • What are some ways that you can share something that you learned?  (Allow the students to answer.)
  • Some of the ways that you can share something that you learned are by telling someone about it, drawing pictures or even writing about it.
  • When you are talking or writing about what you have learned, it is always important to start by explaining what you are going to be telling the person about.  This is called the topic.
  • After that, you should give some details about what you have learned.  When you are speaking with someone, they ask questions that you can answer with details.  When you are writing, you should try to think about details that someone might want to know.
  • For example, if I am writing about my favorite animal, I would write, “I love elephants.  I love that they are big, gentle, smart and beautiful.”
  • Today, you are going to be writing about what a star is.  You should think about how you can explain about a star to someone who doesn’t know.
  • What do you think you could write?
  • I might write, “A star is a ball of gas that burns.  There are billions of stars in the sky.  The sun is a star.”
  • Does anyone have any questions about what to do?
